Many Store Peanut And Almond Butter Brands Are Affected
The manufacturer of many popular peanut and almond butter brands has issued a recall after the Food & Drug Administration brought to its attention the possibility of major contamination with salmonella.
The nut butters include Arrowhead Mills Organic, MaraNatha peanut and almond butters, as well as almond butter store brands from Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods 365, Safeway, and Kroger.
According to the FDA, Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
To learn if your almond or peanut butter has been recalled go to this special FDA website.
Consumers do not need to return the product to the store, where it was purchased. Instead, consumers are urged to dispose of the recalled product and its container. Please contact the manufacturer (nSpired Natural Foods Inc.) at 1-800-937-7008 between the hours of 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM CST if you have any questions or need a replacement or refund. If you have consumed any of these recalled butters, it is best to consult with a medical doctor.
